This is a family owned firm, founded in Germany in 1954, and still run by the son of the founder.
With a new four storey administration building covering 1300m², it was a challenge to develop a system of heating and cooling that was cost effective and also allowed individual temperature choice in different areas of the building. It was also important that heat surplus from the cooling load should be able to be stored and used later to heat the premises.
Colt received the first order in December 2005 to install air conditioning and to ventilate and humidify the new guitar showroom. Particular attention had to be paid to the ventilation in the cabins as customers were testing the guitars in the cabins and the acoustics made this quite complex. In the guitar showroom, Colt installed Caloris units, one ventilation system with plate heat exchanger for heat recovery, and one Axair steam humidifying system. The upper call centre and offices were equipped with Caloris water sourced heat pumps. The second order was submitted in spring 2006 to air condition the new administration building and server room. Colt installed 41 Caloris units. This system is the quietest and highest performance air conditioning system on the market, reducing the CO2 emissions by the most economical heat pump method.
Thomann plan a further, similar expansion in the future.
