Vast IKEA store gets the complete Colt make-over
In February 2006 IKEA opened a vast new store at Haid/Ansfelden in Austria, comprising a total area of 27,500 m2 and 18,500 m2 of selling space. The building is on two storeys, as with all Ikea stores.
Colt provided a total ventilation and daylighting solution. Colt Cosmotron barrel vault daylighting units fitted with integral EuroCO natural smoke ventilators provide good levels of internal light, comfort and safety for those on the upper floor.
Since it would not be possible to extract smoke and gas directly to atmosphere from the lower floor in the case of a fire, this floor has a scheme of Liberator powered smoke extract ventilators ducted down to the floor, with inlet replacement air provided by wall-mounted Colt FCO façade ventilators.
The restaurant is kept cool by the installation of a controllable Solarfin louvre system, which also enhances the external appearance of the building.
