Rolex SA, Geneva - Colt Switzerland

A new office building at the Plan les Ouates in Geneva for Rolex SA has recently been completed, which has the benefit of a Colt comprehensive solar shading system. Colt was contracted by Facade Engineers Emmer & Pfenninger Partner AG, Münchenstein, Switzerland. The building was designed by Architects R. Brodbeck & J. Roulet, Geneva.

Prior to the award of the contract, Colt was required by Emmer & Pfenninger to demonstrate engineering proficiency by building a number of prototypes. Colt was able to clearly show the capability of meeting the exacting requirements set by the client.

The solar shading system comprised 1,008 louvre modules which are fitted into nearly identical bays, each 2.6m wide and 5m high. Each module comprises 9 movable centrally pivoted louvres that automatically track the position of the sun. For the purpose of maintenance or cleaning the entire louvre system can be moved to a vertical position out of the way.

The fins have a brushed anodised finish, giving a homogeneous matt appearance. In order to further reduce daylight levels and provide occupants with additional privacy, different coloured screens have also been installed between the windows and the fins.
