The Business Innovation Centre (BIC) is based on the campus of the pioneering Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME). Up to 45 new businesses will be housed at the BIC and will benefit from in-house expertise and resources available to turn innovative ideas into commercial reality. Designed by Sheppard Robson Architects in London, the BIC has been built as part of the groundbreaking CEME project, a major public/private partnership whose main funding comes from the London Development Agency, Ford Motor Company Limited, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the European Commission, and others.
Colt had worked previously with SDC, the Main Contractor on this building, and had the opportunity to quote for the shading. Colt UK provided Solar C shading to the south elevation of the building in two banks, on the

ground and first floors. Each bank of louvre is 70 metres long with a 1500mm projection, with a polyester powder coating metallic silver RAL 9007.
Colt also provided fixing brackets to the curtain wall contractor, who installed these at 1500mm centres into their cladding system. Colt then installed the rafters and louvre along with a bullnose façia.
Colt also supplied national smoke ventilation to the CEME building.
