The Air Cargo Center project (ACC) at Vienna Airport involved the expansion of the freight- and despatch area as well as office space in order to increase flexibility and effectiveness. Furthermore, the Handling Center West, which contains the equipment and service area and a workshop, was also built. In total, a 24,000 mē area for freight and 15.000 mē of office space were constructed.
The Architect was Andreas Treusch and FCP, who had won a EU-wide architectural competition. The client was Flughafen Wien AG, which was in contract with Gerstl as the main contractor.
Colt was commissioned with the installation of a smoke control system. Several different Colt products were used on this project. 57 FCO louvred ventilators and 485 Smokemaster smoke curtains were installed into the glazing in the different buildings. For the office and detention areas, 54 MLS glazed flap ventilators and 190mē of glazing systems were installed.
The 1,190mē polycarbonate cladding for the southern building was another challenge for this project. In this area, Colt also provided the steel supporting framework as well as the window cills.
The project was completed in January 2006.
