VAL is one of the world's premier alumina refining complexes in terms of its technology, human resources and high quality infrastructure. VAL has built a high calibre team which is enabling the company to grow and operate efficiently.

At Jharsuguda, VAL is also setting up an Aluminium Smelter, a Captive Power Plant and an Independent Power Plant. Jharsuguda is situated in the western part of Orissa. Details of the project:
  • 1.75 MTPA aluminium smelter.
  • 5x135 MW captive power plant.
  • 4x600 MW independent power plants.
  • Rail infrastructure for coal, aluminium & finished product.
  • A modern township under construction.
Technical requirements: Colt ventilation systems have to be able to operate in sometimes challenging environments around the world.

For the Vedanta Jharsuguda site:
  • The ambient temperature can reach 50ºC.
  • The wind speed can be as high as 145 km/h.
  • Defence against 200 mm/h of rain during the monsoon is required.
Colt carried out a survey and technical calculations, and has installed a scheme of Colt Labyrinth gravity ventilators. Each of the eight potrooms with a length of 1,200m is equipped with a 9m wide Labyrinth unit.

In addition all other buildings, anode bake, cast house and work shops are equipped with Colt Labyrinth ventilators. The features of the Labyrinth ventilator include:
