Trimet Aluminium Essen, Germany

Trimet Primary Products, located in Essen, Germany, is a major processor of primary aluminium. 360 electrolysis cells produce approximately 293.000 tonnes of aluminium per year in three shifts.		In 1980 Colt was required to replace existing mechanical HVAC equip-ment in response to changing needs, and supplied a scheme of natural / gravity ventilation. This was attractive to the client since the equipment that had been installed earlier required extensive maintenance, had high		running costs and emitted unacceptable levels of noise. Colt's gravity ventilation scheme consisted of a Labyrinth ventilation system for extract and louvre panels for inlet. Prior to installation Colt carried out a full site survey and

conducted full scale wind tunnel tests in order to ensure that the scheme would function optimally.

After more than 25 years of operation the system is still in a very good condition and the equipment shows no sign of destructive corrosion.
