Labyrinth, Gravity sound-insulated ventilation

The Colt Labyrinth is a gravity (or natural) ventilation unit, developed to provide continuous, rainproof ventilation. The Labyrinth is outstandingly suitable for use in industries generating large amounts of heat and noise, where on the one hand a lot of heat has to be extracted, but on the other hand, the noise nuisance has to be restricted. The unit can be used for air extract and air inflow and can be tailored to accept sound absorbers.

VERSIONS

  • Labyrinth MK1
    Louvres with extra sound absorption
  • Labyrinth MK2
    Louvres with increased ventilation capacity

The Labyrinth comprises the following parts:
BASE

The base comprises a rectangular casing in which is a system of louvres. These louvres have been fitted such that 'labyrinthine channels' are formed, so reflecting the sound and reducing the sound emissions. The panels have edges that catch the rainwater, which then drains to the roof via two channels. The base is manufactured from high-quality Colterra aluminium. The height, length and width are all variable, depending on individual requirement.

  SHUTTER SECTION (OPTIONAL)

The Labyrinth can be fitted with a shutter section. This prevents the unnecessary loss of energy and can be used to regulate the air capacity.
The shutter section comprises a frame with fixed slats, which is used to close the ventilation openings by moving it along a track. The shutter section is fitted on top of the base and can be operated pneumatically or electrically

  SOUND INSULATION (OPTIONAL)

The Labyrinth can have extra sound insulation fitted in two ways:

  • By covering the louvres with sound-absorbing material (MK1).
  • By fitting sound absorbers.
These comprise an aluminium frame containing a sound-absorbing material. The sound absorbers are fitted to the underneath of the louvres, across the width, so that they do not affect the ventilation capacity. The sound absorbers can also be retrofitted if provision is made for this.

The Labyrinth is of low weight and can thus be fitted on all types of roof structure. The unit is furthermore also suitable for fitting in a wall to provide air inflow. It can be fitted at any angle required, from horizontal to vertical. The slope across the transverse axis should not exeed 5°.
