Colt Belgium

Openbaar Psychiatrisch
Ziekenhuis (OPZ), Rekem

OPZ is a public psychiatric hospital in Rekem, near Lanarken in Belgium, owned by the Flemish government. Designed by Architect De Vloed from Melle, the front of the building is curved, and Colt provided a second skin façade with photovoltaic modules, divided into five segments so that the louvre angle can be varied depending on the position of the sun. In the summer, these lower the heat load from the sun and maximise the generation of electricity from a renewable source. In the winter, heat is retained by closing the louvres.
