TWO TEAMS - ONE GOAL - BOMIN JOINS COLT

back to News

On 17 September 2007 Bomin Solar Herstellung und Vertrieb Solartechnischer Anlagen GmbH became a part of the Colt Group of companies.

Bomin Solar designs, manufactures, supplies and installs quality architectural systems mainly in Europe, but also in North America, Mexico and Asia. Bomin Solar's systems include glass, metal and prismatic louvres to control the amount of thermal energy and light entering the building, as well as heliostats to bring daylight into those parts of the building where there is a deficiency of natural light.

The acquisition of Bomin Solar is an excellent fit with the Colt Group's strategy to develop high performance solar shading and daylighting products and systems against a background of increasing interest in sustainability.

The existing team of 20 staff at Bomin Solar will continue to operate out of its premises at Lörrach in Southern Germany.

Gerard van Haren, Chief Executive of the Colt Group, commented: "The opportunity to acquire such a high quality brand leader in this field does not come along very often, if at all."

"With the introduction of new regulations around Europe aimed at reducing carbon emissions from buildings, Colt is in an even stronger position than before to assist architects in meeting such pressing demands, as well as satisfying their aesthetic and functional requirements. We are excited to welcome Bomin Solar into the Colt Group, and we look forward to building on the success of this business to continue our policy of controlled expansion."

Bomin Solar was founded in 1982 as a spin-off from a company that was a pioneer of solar power generation in Germany in the 1970's. Its key shareholder was the Bochumer Mineralölgesellschaft (hence "Bomin"), an oil company, which had the foresight to work towards diversification away from fossil fuels. Accordingly Bomin developed and sold a series of solar thermal collectors, solar absorbers for swimming pools (completing more than 200 projects), as well as photovoltaic systems. In 1992 the company was sold to its management who then decided to focus on high quality architectural systems.
